Community Guidelines

These are some guidelines on how to interact with this piece in ways that help preserve safety among our community.

You can also find more information on this artist's covenant with you on how these stories & thoughts will be used as part of this art piece, as well as other information use considerations.

Community Guidelines

I'm keeping this section pretty simple, and emphasize this first guideline:

The first and main guideline:  Do your best not to use names when sharing.  Unless you specifically state in your posting / art  /voice messages that you want your name / identity known as the poster, I will moderate posts in a manner to prevent this information being known.

Because others cannot consent in your stories to their information being shared, it is important to not use their names and too many specific identifiers.

As for the rest of the guidelines:

The usual internet space guidelines will apply.  I trust that these are guidelines that you are all well familiar with and won't be an issue, yet I will write them here for your reference anyway:

  • No hate speech, harassment, bullying, discrimination or other targeted attacks

  • Avoid spamming / overly self promoting.  (There is an art gallery section, after all – you may share your name/information on your art posts as desired  – just remember, no identifying information of others, and you must explicitly state that you want your name/information shared as part of those posts)

  • Intellectual property – The art shared by the community solely belongs to the artists sharing it.  No unauthorized use of these works will be allowed.

I am open to suggestions on any others that may be needed specified!  Email me here at holdingspaceatmcad@gmail.com or call the Blue Line here: 763-313-2876763-313-2876

How will these stories / information be used?

My intent behind this piece is to let us witness and see one another, frankly and with care.  To engage and expand our capacities to hold space for this.

While the impetus to create this piece was born out of an academic programatic pursuit, I have no intent or plans to gather and present your stories, thoughts, and questions about your relationship to this institution and to one another as an academic and formal call for change within MCAD the institution, or to the very real humans that currently have leadership decision-making within MCAD.  I have no intent for myself to individualistically assign meaning from the collective stories shared here and present that assigned meaning as a call to action.  I can imagine a collective meaning and decision-making model around this art piece*

As a fellow artist and creator, I imagine that I will eventually have emotional take-aways from this gathering space that are reflected in my own artistic practice.  Outside of sharing pieces of this art project to call for future participation, I will not utilize your words / art / images / audio messages in any manner outside of this piece without obtaining your specific consent.

This art piece has been created as a capstone project as part of a master's degree program – of which has the academic trappings of synthesizing my learnings in this master's program and assigning meaning-making to the stories you all share as a part of this piece – I as the artist challenge this academic call to gather these stories with the intent to individually assign meaning to these stories gathered in this space.  I will reflect on my own research of paths to engagement, and the paths in which community chose to response to the piece itself.

* I intend in the future to potentially further explore collective decision and meaning-making through this art piece.  I would love thought-partners and collaborators in this endeavor when the time comes, and encourage you to reach out to me if this is your interest as well.

and how long will they be stored / preserved?

I see this current show, dated from July 4th – August 4th 2024, as a phase 1 for future possible iterations of this piece and for holding space in this way.

I currently have 1 year secured for this website to hold our stories, and intend to seek funding to extend that timeline. I do not intend to isolate and share your stories as part of this process.  This website is open to public viewing and may be viewed as part of a future fundraising intiative.

Storage of these files will solely exist on this website, and in an external hard-drive in the artist's  possession.  All images / audio / word and story files iterations will not be altered and utilized for personal use by the artist, and will only be altered for creating anonymity before posting / sharing to this website.

The Artist's Covenant with you

I take my responsibility as the artist and moderator of this piece very seriously.  In addition to creating a space where we can all gather and share what we need held in this moment, making sure to preserve the psychological safety of our community is also my priority.

My covenant with you is that I will do everything in my power to protect your personal and identifying information, and to help participants do the same.
